How Do Advertisers Make Advertisements - 1197 Words
How do advertisers make ads to persuade you? Advertisements implement different strategies in order to persuade the viewers using ethos, pathos, and logos. Ethos is appealing to the viewers character. Pathos is the way something provokes an emotion. Logos is using numbers and reasoning to persuade an audience. In the anti smoking campaign ads, the creators test the effectiveness of the ads by appealing to the audience using pathos in two different types of ways. The first ad contains an image of a young adult male smoking a cigarette. The cigarette smoke creates an image of a gun aimed at his head. In the bottom right corner there is a note that says, ââ¬Å" Kill a cigarette and save a life. Yours.â⬠The entire ad is in black and white to create a depressing mood. This ad uses pathos to persuade the audience by provoking the emotion of depression and death of an adolescent. This ad targets a younger audience member along with parents. From a younger person s point of view it looks like the boy is basically committing suicide. From a parent s point of view, it makes them want to stop young people from smoking because it shows it can kill them, so it would be there way of protection. The second ad contains an image of a man that is appealing to the eye. This man is being choked by a cigarette that is acting like a hand. The ad is like a smooth caramel looking color to match along with the man s smooth skin.
